ZOOM DOWN – UPDATE ONE: Zoom has confirmed that they are investigating the reported issues with their Meetings service today.
Since around 10am BST today Down Detector has registered a large and steady stream of Zoom down reports, with the outage peaking at around 3,000 reported issues.
On social networking sites such as Twitter Zoom users have said they have run into problems hosting and joining meetings as well as with audio and video output.
And now in an update on the Zoom Service Status page, the video conferencing service has confirmed that engineers are investigating the problem.
Zoom said: “We have received reports that some Zoom users may be experiencing issues hosting and joining meetings.
“Our team is working to identify the root cause and scope of this issue.”
They later added: “Our team is investigating the root cause of issues joining Zoom Meetings. These issues appear to be limited to a subset of users.”
On the Zoom Service Status page both Zoom Meetings as well as the Dashboard & Reporting area of the website are listed as running at a degraded performance.
ORIGINAL: Zoom down reports are on the rise at the moment, with users reporting problems with video and audio output in meetings today.
Independent outage monitor Down Detector UK has registered a huge spike in Zoom down reports. Out of those affected some 70 per cent are having issues with Zoom’s video conferencing services.
While other Zoom users have also been affected by login problems.
According to the Down Detector outage map the Zoom issues are mainly affecting users in the UK, Europe and parts of the US.
Down Detector is an independent outage monitor which tracks social mentions to spot when popular services are taken offline.
As the Zoom issues hit people flocked to social networking site Twitter to report problems they were facing.
One tweeted: “@zoom_us are there problems ? We are having major issues on a meeting with no video link”.
And another posted: “@zoom_us Any fix for the lack of participant video? Blank screens on all devices and participant screens after the latest update”.
While one Zoom user wrote: “@zoom_us IM HAVING BIG PROBLEMS this morning with #zoom A meeting of 65 participants and we can’t see each other’s videos or hear anyone..please help”.
At the time of writing Down Detector UK has registered a peak of more than 2,000 Zoom down reports, with large-scale reports beginning from around 10am BST.
The official Zoom Twitter account is yet to comment on the reported issues the service is experiencing today.
The Zoom Server Status page says the majority of its services such as Zoom Meetings and Zoom Chat are operational.
But it does note that the Zoom website’s Dashboard & Reporting functionality is experiencing a “degraded performance”.
This year Zoom has seen a huge increase in its userbase amid a changing workplace climate where millions are having to do their job from home.
Most recent stats from Zoom show the number of daily meeting participants has risen from 10million in December to 300million in April.
This stat was revealed after Zoom had previously said in a blog post that they had 300million daily active users.
A few days after the blog in question was published, Zoom added an update to say: “We are humbled and proud to help over 300 million daily meeting participants stay connected during this pandemic.
“In a blog post on April 22, we unintentionally referred to these participants as ‘users’ and ‘people’.
“When we realised this error, we adjusted the wording to ‘participants’. This was a genuine oversight on our part.”
