William Barr made the announcement on Tuesday his team will review decisions made by the FBI and Justice Department during the probe of the Trump campaign.
The move from Mr Barr indicates he could well investigate claims that the initial investigation into the US President was biased from the start, according to Bloomberg.
Mr Barr’s decision comes following the release of the Mueller report last month which found no links between Trump’s 2016 Presidential election campaign and Russia interference.
In a statement before a House Appropriations subcommittee, Mr Barr said: “I am reviewing the conduct of the investigation and trying to get my arms around all the aspects of the counterintelligence investigation that was conducted during the summer of 2016.”
Speaking at the subcommittee, Mr Barr was questioned on why lawmakers had not been given special counsel Robert Mueller’s full report and evidence.
Mr Barr did confirm however, that he will release the report “within a week”.
