TRANSFER WINDOW: WHEN DOES IT CLOSE? PREMIER LEAGUE CHANGES EXPLAINED

Wenger backs Arteta

12:40: Mikel Arteta has been backed to take the Arsenal job by his former boss Arsene Wenger.

“He has all the qualities to do the job, yes and I think as well he is one of the favourites,” he told beinSPORTS.

“He was a leader, and he has a good passion for the game and he knows the club well, he knows what is important at the club and he was captain of the club. Why Not?”

Buffon leaving Juventus

11:25: Gianluigi Buffon has confirmed he will leave Juventus at the end of the season.

Buffon has not officially retired from club football and admits to having offers, both off and on the field.

He will make a decision on his next move next week, after playing his final Serie A game against Verona on Saturday.

“The most stimulating proposal out of the camp was sent to me by the President,” he said.

“Next week, after two or three days of reflection and serenity, I will make my decision.”

Buffon has made 638 Serie A appearances having started his career at Parma before joining Juve in 2001.

Benitez to West Ham claim

10:35: Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is wanted by West Ham but Chris Waddle can’t see him moving unless a huge offer comes along.

“Benitez might look at it and think, ‘You know at Newcastle, I’ve got that budget which is not obviously great’ and he wants more and rightly so,” Waddle told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“But going to West Ham it might be a very similar budget and he says at Newcastle, he’s absolutely loved, the fans love him, and rightly so, he’s one a great job.

“He could go to West Ham, lose the first five games and it’s like, ‘What [are] you doing here?’

“So for him to move it would have to be an unbelievable sort of deal to say, ‘I’m allowed to spend a lot of money to bring certain players in I’ve identified who I’d probably like to bring to Newcastle, who are even bigger players.’

“Where do you wanna be? That is the question for any manager going into West Ham. Where do you want to be?

“Will it be a relegation battle? Will it be a mid-table or… Where actually does the club wanna go?”

Griezmann should snub Man Utd and Barca

09:35: Antoine Griezmann should stay at Atletico Madrid, according to the club’s chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin.

Gil Marin says Griezmann should snub United and Barca this summer, however, the Atletico chief admits he has no idea where his star man’s future lies.

“It will depend on his feelings more than anything else,” Gil Marin said after Atletico’s Europa League triumph.

“If he wants to make history at Atletico Madrid where everything revolves around him, or go to a club where he will never enter history.

“If he decides that he does not want to continue with us, we have to respect his decision.

“I am not optimistic or pessimistic. I do not know what will happen, it is not a decision for him to say after the final.”

Leno wants Arsenal transfer

08:40: Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno is keen to join Arsenal this summer.

According to The Sun, Arsenal are looking to replace Petr Cech, 35.

They say Leverkusen No 1 Leno has been on the Gunners’ radar for months and he tops their wishlist to succeed Cech at the Emirates.

And The Sun reckon Germany international Leno, 26, is keen to join Arsenal this summer.

Leno, who would be Cech’s long-term replacement, would cost the Gunners around £25m.

Zidane approves Salah deal

07:55: Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has reportedly given the green light to a deal for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah this summer.

At the top of club president Florentino Perez’s wishlist is Liverpool’s Salah.

With reports in Spain suggesting Perez is pushing hard to secure the forward, Zidane’s position on a potential deal has been unclear.

The Frenchman remains a long-term admirer of Chelsea’s Eden Hazard with the Belgian potentially leaving the Blues this summer after failing to agree a new contract.

However, Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda claims Zidane is now fully onboard with trying to prise Salah away from Merseyside.

“Zidane has already given the OK to Salah,” Inda revealed, adding the French boss “loves” the idea of the 25-year-old playing in his forward line.

Man Utd chase Willian and Fred

07:10: Manchester United are closing in on Brazilian targets Willian and Fred ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window tomorrow.

Express Sport understands they have already have sounded out winger Willian’s representatives about a possible move to Old Trafford while midfielder Fred has confirmed he is ready to quit Shakhtar Donetsk to move to the Premier League with United favourites to sign him.

Fred said: “I have made it clear to Shakhtar that I want to make a bigger leap in my career.

“There are clubs interested in England and France. As soon as a I come back from the World Cup we will sit down, talk and look at the options.”

Griezmann to Barcelona latest

06:30: Antoine Griezmann refused to be moved on whether he is moving to Barcelona following Atletico Madrid’s Europa League victory.

Griezmann scored twice as Atletico beat Marseille 3-0 last night to lift the Europa League.

The France international has been strongly linked to a move to Barcelona, with Manchester United also rumoured to be keen on the striker.

And though the 27-year-old admits he wants to win more silverware, he wouldn’t be drawn on where his future lies.

“It is not the moment to talk about my future, I must enjoy having won a trophy, and celebrate it with the fans,” said Griezmann.

“The truth is this was a dream for me, to win a trophy with Atletico, with [Diego Simeone] and my friends and teammates.

“Your feeling for a club gets stronger every game, every year.

“I’ve been here four years, and I have enjoyed today with the fans, the people of the club, my relationship with them is strong, which is why I give everything on the pitch.

“When I left home at 14 years of age it was to win trophies, to enjoy nights like this. This is the second, after a Supercopa, and I hope I can win more trophies.”
