This Samsung Galaxy Note 9 camera update could extend your battery life | Tech | Life & Style

Battery life is one of the most sought-after features in smartphones, yet it rarely gets improved. The may change that with a new battery system.

Samsung is rumoured to be placing a larger battery in its phablet smartphone which is expected to be released in August this year.

A new leak shows a Note 9 that features a side by side dual camera on the rear rather than the latest up and under camera lens layout found on the latest S9+.

This horizontal dual camera was also the original design layout for the cameras on the Galaxy Note 8.

This change of rear cameras from the S9+ vertical layout is, according to reliable leakster Ice Universe, due to battery size.

By placing the camera lenses next to each other Samsung may be able to cram in a larger battery than the S9+ offers.

Rumours suggest a battery of anywhere between 3,850 mAh and 4,000 mAh.

Shifting components is likely necessary in the case of the Note 9 which has a dedicated space for its S Pen stylus, something which is also expected an upgrade this year.

Samsung has troubles in the past with its batteries in the Galaxy Note series resulting in a recall of the device. After that, it dropped battery size.

This jump will mark a move continued effort to increase the Note battery size to something that can better maintain that large phablet screen which can eat battery fast.

Other Note 9 specs include an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen, a new S Pen with enhanced sensitivity and a waterproof build.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is expected to feature a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED QHD+ screen with 18:5:9 ratio which should offer HDR level quality.

Expect to see a dual lens rear camera with variable aperture like that found on the Galaxy S9+ which should mean excellent low light photography.

There may also be an enhanced front-facing camera system which allows for greater accuracy and speed for facial recognition through Samsung’s iris spotting tech.

Powering the S9 is expected to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU or Exynos chip, depending on location. In both cases there should be at least 6GB of RAM for lots of speed.

Bixby 2.0 is also set to make an appearance as the Samsung artificially intelligent assistant gets even smarter.
