The theatre is owned by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
My first visit was in August 2017, when I had found the restaurant to be a lovely new addition to the already buzzing neighbourhood.
This second visit, however, not only did not disappoint, but in fact only increased my appreciation of this charming place, with its modern British cooking and concept of ‘sharing plates’.
I was with my friend, Dimity Rubie, whom I have known and admired for many years, and between our animated conversation, we started with Devon crab (with peanut, pickled cabbage and yuzu).
We then went on to Cornish mackerel with gooseberries. Of these two, the clear winner was the mackerel, which was spiced with English mustard, that gave it a very pleasant kick.
The crab was delicious as well, but not quite as memorable as the mackerel.
We then chose Orkney scallops with blackberries, and smoked eel with rhubarb, ginger and coriander.
I liked the scallops the best, but then I am not an eel lover, and although some people believe it is the best of the very popular Japanese fish, I am not one.
This version, however, was light and delicately flavoured, and obviously a winner in the category.
We agreed that best of all was the meat dish that we shared.
This is unusual for me as I am always looking for new and exciting, but light, dishes, and therefore meat is not usually something I would choose.
This time, however, we indulged in Barbecued pork belly with sesame and Korean spices.
Just the thought of such exotic flavours made us feel we needed to try this dish, and it was really something special and different.
As we had been a bit abstemious on the meat course, we believed we had a right to have dessert.
So we did, and chose honeycomb, chocolate mousse and salted caramel, which was as it sounds – delicious.
I love salted caramel, and this was a wonderful sweet combination to remember.
Someone at another table chose apple sorbet with apple crumble and custard.
That looked inviting as well, but I kept having a vision of what my scales would say the next day, so decided to let my passion take a pass.
The Other Naughty Piglet is a lovely little place to go, especially at lunchtime, when it is quiet and not as crowded as it is at dinner time.
Before and after the theatre it gets very busy, and, as I like to hear what my companion is saying, lunch is when I can readily recommend it.
