Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, often undertake royal excursions across the globe. They are sometimes called upon to represent the UK’s longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, to boost the profile of the monarchy and diplomatic relations. As part of his role, Prince William and Prince Harry’s father, 70, set up a foundation called the Prince’s Trust. It was through this he forged a friendship with now celebrity shoe designer go-to, Jimmy Choo.
During a banquet for the Federation of Malaysia their unexpected bond was revealed.
Royal biographer Robert Hardman documented their professional relationship in his new book, Queen of the World.
Detailing the feelings of Malaysian-born Jimmy, he wrote: “He has never forgotten that he was only able to start his shoe empire thanks to a £40 a week grant from the Prince’s Trust.
“No wonder he remains eternally grateful to the Prince, whom he refers to as his ‘god brother’.”
Robert then documented the Malaysia celebration event, where the bind came to light.
He wrote: “He (Prince Charles) reminds his audience of what can be achieved by motivating young people, pointing to the example of a beaming Jimmy Choo.
“Many in the room had no idea of the key role that the Prince had played in helping one of Malysia’s most famous brand names get off the ground.
“The evening exceeded Foreign Office expectations.”
Meanwhile, recent revelations about the Prince have suggested he is rather particular when it comes to what he takes when travelling overseas.
His former chef has also revealed one of the unusual requests he often made.
Carolyn Robb, the youngest and first female chef who served Prince Charles and Princess Diana, worked in the royal household for 11 years between 1989 and 2000.
She explained to the MailOnline about Prince Charles’ request to have his homegrown food from the UK with him even when he was abroad.
“He liked to have his own food with him,” she explained, meaning “piles and piles of cool-boxes” were taken around the world.
While is seems to be a strange request, it was to avoid falling ill during a full itinerary.
She explained. “He couldn’t risk going down with a bad stomach when he was so busy.”
