Emergency services scrambled to the scene of the blast at the corner of Saint-Cecile and Rue de Trevise in Paris’s 9th District. Pictures shared on social media showed burnt-out cars and debris strewn across streets next to the explosion at a boulangerie, otherwise known as a French bakery. Firefighters are tackling a fire caused by the explosion, which happened shortly before 8am GMT (9am local time). People have been urged to avoid the area by rescue crews.
What happened? Are there any casualties?
Police say nine people were seriously injured following the explosion.
They are investigating whether it was caused by a gas leak but this has yet to be confirmed.
