That is the verdict of former Arsenal forward turned Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.
Merson has been impressed with the way Hughton has managed Brighton in their debut Premier League campaign.
Hughton has comfortably kept the Seagulls up and can lead them to a top-half finish if they beat Liverpool in the final game today.
Arsenal are still on the lookout for a new manager, with Arsene Wenger leaving after today’s game at Huddersfield.
Merson says Hughton could have been an option if he didn’t play 297 league games in a 13-year spell at Tottenham as a player.
“I think if he didn’t play for Tottenham, he should be in the running for the Arsenal job,” Merson said.
“Even when he has left clubs, he shouldn’t have been let go.
“I think they’ve been absolutely outstanding.
“There’s always a shape to them, you watch Brighton play and you always know what they’re trying to do.
“Tactically, the way he coaches his players and he’s improved every one of them players.
“I think he’s been outstanding.”
