Monaco Grand Prix: LIVE updates as Daniel Ricciardo starts on pole with rain coming | F1 | Sport

Daniel Ricardo has dominated all weekend with the Red Bulls having all the pace and starts on pole this afternoon.

But he will have one eye in his rear-view mirrors when the lights go out with Sebastian Vettel alongside him on the grid and Lewis Hamilton just behind in third.

Ricciardo will be seeking some redemption from the 2016 Grand Prix where he was in a position to win, only for a botched pit-stop to hand the win to Lewis Hamilton.

There was yet more heartbreak for Max Verstappen yesterday when he crashed hard in FP3 meaning he was unable to get his car ready for qualifying.

The Dutchman will therefore begin the race from the back of the grid and faces an extremely tough challenge to battle his way through the pack.

Sit tight and enjoy the action by following our live blog below.

Monaco Grand Prix 2018 LIVE

1:40pm: Just half an hour until the lights go out and time for a quick recap of what the top ten on the grid look like.

1. Ricciardo, 2. Vettel, 3. Hamilton, 4. Raikkonen, 5. Bottas, 6. Ocon, 7. Alonso, 8. Sainz, 9. Perez, 10 Gasly

1:30pm: We could be in for an extra special race here in Monaco with the potential of weather conditions playing a part.

There was some light drizzle earlier in the day and it appears to have eased off at the moment.

But David Coulthard doesn’t think Ricciardo will welcome the sight of any rain on the track during the Grand Prix.

“Ricciardo has been supreme all the way through,” he said on Channel 4.

“He doesn’t want the weather playing a part in this, he just wants to dominate from the front.”

1:20pm: It was another dreadful day for Verstappen as he crashed once again. At 20 years old his inexperience has really been tested this season.

And Red Bull’s patience is seemingly running thin with Christian Horner once again firing a warning to Verstappen yesterday.

“Max needs to learn from it and stop making these errors,” he said.

“He is in a car that is capable of winning this grand prix and that will hurt him even more because you don’t get that many opportunities to win a Monaco Grand Prix.”

1:10pm: Welcome to our live blog for the prestigious street circuit around Monaco where the Formula One cars take centre stage in the glitz and the glamour of the south of France.

Daniel Ricciardo is a man on a mission as he hopes to avenge his heartache from 2016 but Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton will be hot on his tail.
