The First Lady shared a photo of the White House lit up in blue in honour of law enforcers. The US are currently marking its National Police Week in tribute to fallen officers. US President Donald Trump pledged on Wednesday to “never leave the side” of families who have lost members in combat.
Mrs Trump shared a photo on Twitter of the White House’s iconic pillars lit up in blue.
She wrote: “The White House is lit blue tonight in remembrance and honour of our fallen law enforcement officers.
“Thank you to all the men and women in law enforcement who work hard to keep us safe.”
Twitter users were quick to thank the First Lady for the gesture.
One Twitter user said: “Beautiful! Thank you for standing for all the men and women in law enforcement who work so hard to keep us safe.”
While another added: “Thankful for all law enforcers. Thank you for sharing this beautiful photo of The White House.”
A third person said: “You’re just a class act, you are the best.
“Thank you for all the good you do. God bless FLOTUS and our POTUS.”
President Trump issued a statement in honour of law enforcement officers.
He said: “On Peace Officers Memorial Day and throughout Police Week, we express our unending gratitude to our Nation’s law enforcement officers.
“Those brave men and women selflessly confront danger to protect our families and defend our communities.
“We honour those in blue who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty.
“We are especially mindful of the tremendous sacrifices of the 106 heroes who laid down their lives last year while protecting their communities.”
