Jason Miller, Donald Trump’s close aide and former campaign manager, claimed Melania “said she loves” the fact that her husband is not on social media. Last month, Mr Trump was banned from Twitter and Facebook after the former President’s supporters stormed Capitol Hill.

But the social media bans are said to have been a good thing for Mr Trump.

Mr Miller told The Sunday Times: “The president has said he feels happier now than he’s been in some time.

“He’s said that not being on social media, and not being subject to the hateful echo chamber that social media too frequently becomes, has actually been good.

“That’s something the first lady has backed up as well. She has said she loves it, that he’s much happier and is enjoying himself much more.”

While still the US President, Mr Trump was permanently banned from Twitter over risks of “further incitement of violence”.

Video footage of the violent protests in Washington last month showed thousands of demonstrators storming the Capitol building in an attempt to disrupt the certification of President Joe Biden.

Mr Trump became the first US President to be impeached twice after he was charged by the House of Representatives with “incitement of insurrection” following the violent protests.

His Senate trial, due to begin on Tuesday, will decide whether he can ever run for US President again.

He told The Sunday Times: “There is no real scenario in which he is going to be convicted, so the pressure is completely off.”

Mr Miller added how Mr Trump has found time now to “truly relax” amid his social media bans.

He said: “This was the first time in years that I saw the president truly relaxed. Only 45 other people in US history have experienced what it is like to have the world on their shoulders . . . and to be able to exhale, knowing that it’s not all on you for the first time in four years.”

When Mr Trump left the White House last month, he moved to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

Mr Trump refused to attend President Biden’s inauguration ceremony on January 20.

According to a CNN report, many people inside the White House during former President Trump’s administration heard his thoughts on the issue for the first time through his Twitter feed.

Melania was one of those who reportedly did not know about her husband’s plans until he announced them on Twitter, according to a senior White House staffer.

Before his social media ban, Mr Trump tweeted: “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”

But reports suggest this was not the first time Mrs Trump had discovered news from her husband over Twitter.

A source told CNN: “It’s not the first time she has learned what he was doing because he tweeted it before he told her.”
