£65m transfer plot slammed
Manchester United’s interest in securing a £65m deal for Crystal Palace ace Aaron Wan-Bissaka has left Ray Parlour perplexed.
“It is madness, absolute madness,” former Arsenal midfielder Parlour told talkSPORT.
“I really like him, I think he’s an excellent player and I’ve seen him on quite a few occasions. His defending is very good and he gets forward. But for £65m? It’s crazy.
“I mean, look at those Ajax youngsters. They’re only young and they’ve not really done anything yet.
“They’ve really shown that they can play in an Ajax shirt and have done really well in the Champions League but they’re going for £70m-£80m as well.”
Matthijs de Ligt theory
Manchester United may not be fighting Manchester City for Matthijs de Ligt due to Mino Raiola and Pep Guardiola’s frosty relationship.
That is according to transfer guru Gabriele Marcotti, who told ESPN FC: “If it’s going to be £80m, it’s going to be one of those two clubs [City or United, that Harry Maguire joins].
“What I find really surprising, and I think maybe there’s a story there, is Matthijs de Ligt.
“In some ways when you look at the type of football centre-half he is and the fact that he cost about as much as Maguire but of course he’s four years [sic] younger, he might be a great fit at City.
“If not for one thing. I wonder if this is the reason that City haven’t been linked to him, is that his agent is Mino Raiola and obviously there’s a lot of bad blood between him and Pep Guardiola going back 10 years to Ibrahimovic at Barcelona.
“I wonder if that’s the reason they say, ‘You know what, let’s take De Ligt out of the picture, let’s just focus on Harry Maguire.”
Antoine Griezmann hijack
Manchester United are planning to make their own move to stop Barcelona snaring Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, it has been claimed.
Griezmann is quitting the Wanda Metropolitano this summer following a relatively disappointing season for the Spanish giants.
Barcelona seems set to be his next destination, with Atletico CEO Gil Marin suggesting a deal is already in place for the switch to happen.
However, The Sun reckon United will try to hijack Barcelona’s move for the Frenchman to add him to Solskjaer’s squad.
