Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken out ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with West Brom on Sunday. The Red Devils go into the match seeking a return to winning ways in the top flight after a 3-3 draw with Everton last time out. They currently trail fierce rivals Manchester City by five points at the summit.

And, in his pre-match press conference, Solskjaer revealed Pogba would still be missing for the match on Sunday.

“We’ve had a rare opportunity to do a little bit of training and some recovery, because you’ve got Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and not a game until Sunday,” he said.

“So that’s been a rarity for us really.

“Paul [Pogba] is still out. Eric [Bailly] has been training so that’s a boost for us.”

In the week, United promoted youngster Shola Shoretire and Hannibal Mejbri is set to follow.

“I think that’s a nice step for them and well deserved because they’ve done really well.”

Solskjaer also opened up on the Europa League.

The club’s tie has been moved to Turin because of the coronavirus and the 47-year-old said: “The different governments and the travel in Europe at the moment is difficult.

“It’s not a decision we made but when one game is on a neutral venue, it’s a disadvantage to the team that doesn’t have the home game.

“That’s out of our hands, we can’t say we’d go to Turin and just play one game. I wouldn’t mind that at all. It would be one game less.

“That’s what we did last season. We met somewhere neutral and made it a tournament.

“Of course, home and away, if we’ve got to keep that going… as I said, we do have a little advantage and a disadvantage for Sociedad to have their home game in Turin.

“For me, I wouldn’t stand in the way of [changing] that. There’s probably other reasons why we don’t.”

On players being abused by fans on social media, he continued: “Today with all the abuse and discrimination on social media – for me, it’s simple.

“If you don’t have proof of your identity, you cannot open an account. That’s just as simple as. And it would be so much easier to punish the numpties that have nothing better to do.”
