The road traffic incident took place northbound between junction 8 for the A120 at Bishop’s Stortford to junction 9 for Saffron Walden shorly before 11am.
Motorists can expect delays of an hour and 40 minutes and seven miles of queues.
Lane two of two is blocked and there is also a spillage as a result of the accident.
Highways England confirmed all vehicles involved have been recovered and traffic officers are at the scene.
In a statement it said: “There are delays of 60 minutes above usual journey times #M11 northbound between J8a and J9 due to a collision.
“All involved vehicles have been recovered and #TrafficOfficers now dealing with oil spillage.”
There has been no reports of any injuries.
Drivers have been advised to add extra time to their journeys and find alternative routes.
As of 12.41pm all lanes have re-opened by traffic remains slow in the area between junction 8 towards the Stansted interchange.
