What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a medical condition that occurs when the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium, grows in other places, such as the fallopian tubes, ovaries or along the pelvis.

When that lining breaks down, like the regular lining the uterus that produces the menstruation, it has nowhere to go.

This causes cysts, heavy periods, severe cramps and even infertility.

What are the symptoms of endometriosis?

The NHS explains: “The symptoms of endometriosis can vary. Some women are badly affected, while others might not have any noticeable symptoms.

“The main symptoms could include pain in the lower tummy or back, period pain, pain during sex, feeling sick, constipation, diarrhoea, or blood in the urine and difficulty falling pregnant.”

Kate is a proud mum to her son, Otis, which she gave birth to in 2008.
