The WikiLeaks founder has been saying in the London building since 2012. He sought asylum there after Swedish police wanted to question him over allegations of sexual assault and rape. WikiLeaks revealed in a tweet on Thursday night: “A high-level source within the Ecuadorian state has told WikiLeaks that Julian Assange will be expelled within ‘hours to days’ using the INA papers offshore scandal as a pretext and that it already has an agreement with the UK for his arrest.”
Australian-born Mr Assange has found an ally in former Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson over the past few years.
Last November, she called on Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to defend him and help him bring him back to Australia.
Pamela denied she was more than just a close friends of Mr Assange, although she revealed to Nine Network’s 60 Minutes show that their relationship was a “romantic struggle”.
She said: “We don’t have a romantic relationship, but I feel very close to him and I feel closer to him than I think a lot of people have gotten to him.”
The pair struck up a friendship over a shared interest in activism and Pamela was often pictured visiting him in the Ecuadorian Embassy several times in 2017.
She was even seeing bringing him vegan cheeseburgers.
She was also asked whether a “physical” relationship would exist between them if he was out the embassy.
She responded: “Who knows? He’s a little pale for me.”
Who is Julian Assange?
Mr Assange is wanted by American authorities for his role in publishing secret US documents.
In January, Mr Assange launched legal action against the Trump administration in a bid to prevent his extradition to the US.
Wikileaks tweeted today: “It will be a sad day for democracy if the UK and Ecuadorean governments are willing to act as accomplices to the Trump administration’s determination to prosecute a publisher for publishing truthful information”
Meanwhile, UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said Mr Assange is a “free man” and can leave the embassy if he wants to.
Mr Hunt said today: “Julian Assange is a free man.
“He can leave that embassy whenever he wants.
“We want the situation resolved as quickly as possible. It is up to him.“
