It was rumoured that Cena, who is now on a part-time schedule with the WWE, would be fighting Angle in his last ever match.
But according to PWInsider, Cena will be taking a different role in the match.
The 16-time WWE Champion will be special guest referee for Angle’s match with Baron Corbin.
Incidentally, Cena’s first match in the WWE back in 2002 was against Angle.
Cena’s career in WWE is one of the most decorated, having tied Ric Flair for most Championship runs on 16.
Angle, who was a veteran in the business when Cena made his debut against him, made his return to WWE in 2018.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame and at WrestleMania 34 he was Ronda Rousey’s tag team partner for their bout with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.
And ahead of his match with Corbin, it was expected by many that Cena would crash the party and become Angle’s last-minute opponent.
Angle spoke about the chances of seeing Cena at Mania just days ago.
“I love John and I know that he will have a WrestleMania match,” Angle said at WWE’s media event in Brooklyn, New York.
“I’m not sure if they’ve announced it yet, but I’m almost positive he’s gonna be there.”
Cena’s career with the WWE seems to be winding down, as the Cenation leader begins to take a backseat due to his movie duties.
Known as a WWE legend, Cena has been the company’s poster boy since 2006, when he main-evented his first WrestleMania in 2006.
Fans are eager to see Cena face off against Angle in the latter’s final ever match, in order see Cena’s career turn full-circle.
