Apple appears to be working on an affordable iPhone SE 2 after numerous leaks, the latest of which appears to show off the new handset’s iPhone X style top-notch screen and a release date.
Apple was already rumoured to be working on an iPhone SE 2 but it was thought to offer the same design as the current iPhone SE. This new leak suggests otherwise.
The iPhone SE 2 render, sent to MobileFun by case manufacturer Olixar, shows a smaller and squarer version of the iPhone X top-notch edge-to-edge display.
This case is already on sale, suggesting it is indeed the final design for the new budget iPhone. That or an expensive and elaborate stunt by the case manufacturer.
This would suggest that Apple plans to ditch the home button, even on its budget handset.
This makes sense as Apple has invested a lot in Face ID which does away with the need for that fingerprint reading Touch ID home button.
Previous leaks have suggested Apple will launch three new iPhones, each with the edge-to-edge display – also supporting the theory that Apple will do away with the home button completely.
Apple is also rumoured to make another uniform feature across the iPhones, that lack of 3.5mm headphone port. From this render it is unclear if that will be the case or not.
Apple’s controversial decision to remove the headphone port has left companies like OnePlus still featuring the port so as to attract customers that want it.
The render of the iPhone SE 2 also shows a date of June 19th. This could be the date that Apple reveals the handset or puts it on sale.
Since it’s the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) on June 4th where the phone could be announced, this June 19th date for general sale makes sense.
Rumoured specs for the iPhone SE 2 include a waterproof build, A10 CPU with 2GB of RAM, 12MP rear camera and a 1,700 mAh battery. Pricing has not been mentioned.
Apple is also expected to release its largest phone yet in the iPhone XL that could feature a 6.5-inch OLED display with notch.
Also rumoured is a 6.1-inch LCD edge-to-edge notch display iPhone that could be an affordable big phone.
Finally there should be a refresh of the current 5.8-inch iPhone X also.
