The tragic animal had severe bite wounds from either being used to fight other dogs or bait badgers, fear animal crime investigators.
A shocked householder found the stricken dog cowering in their yard after being thrown over a wall.
The dog was in such a poor state when she was found dumped at the property in the centre of Macclesfield that vets fear the horrendous injury had happened weeks earlier.
Because of the wounds and raging infection, it was decided to amputate the ear immediately.
RSPCA Animal Welfare Officer Stephen Wickham said: “This looks like horrible, cruel and uncaring neglect.
“The vet confirms this lovely dog would have suffered deeply from her terrible untreated wounds, which we think were most likely caused by illegal dog fighting.
“This poor dog was in a terrible state. Her right ear was hanging by only a thread.
“To make matters worse, her almost-severed ear was in an advanced state of putrefaction which suggests she was left to suffer – untreated – for at least a couple of weeks.”
She is now being cared for at the RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital until she recovers.
Anyone with information about the dog is asked to called the RSPCA’s confidential appeals line on 0300 123 8018.
