AFI Life Achievement Award Recipient George Clooney (L) and Amal Clooney
Her gushing assessment of her marriage to the Hollywood star reduced George, 57, to tears as he was honoured by the American Film Institute.
Amal also confessed that she had resigned herself to spinsterhood before she met George.
Addressing the star-studded room where the Ocean’s Eleven star received a lifetime achievement award, the lawyer said it was easier for her “to address a court on behalf of detainees than to speak publicly, as I am doing for the first time tonight, about my husband”.
She added: “I met George when I was 35 and starting to become quite resigned to the idea that I would be a spinster.
Amal also confessed that she had resigned herself to spinsterhood before she met George
“Then we met and started hiding out in my London flat and very soon it felt like no matter what happened I would never want to be with anyone else.”
Despite being one of the most celebrated couples in Hollywood following their 2014 marriage and the birth of twins a year ago, Amal and George remain tight-lipped about their private life.
But as George looked on the 40-year-old revealed more about their marriage in her speech, adding: “I could not sleep when we were apart and I’m told that I would display a particular grin and head tilt when reading his text messages or the letters he would hide in my bag.”
attends The BRIT Awards 2018
Perrie Edwards is now said to be one of the major names in the frame to replace Louis Walsh as an X Factor judge when the hit show returns to our screens in the autumn.
The 24-year-old is the latest X Factor alumnus to be linked with the role.
Louis Tomlinson (as Day & Night has already revealed) and Leona Lewis are also said to be in the shake-up. A show insider said: “People are starting to talk seriously about Perrie as Louis’ replacement.
“Little Mix came through the X Factor so Perrie has seen the process from start to finish.” Perrie might have been hoping to raise her profile as one of the Wags in joining boyfriend Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the World Cup but the Liverpool player’s injury means that will no longer be the case.
Mel B may not have been joined by Eddie Murphy at their daughter’s elementary school graduation this week but at least one Murphy came along: Eddie’s mother The Spice Girl, 43, and Eddie, 57, dated in 2006 but things ended when Mel was five months pregnant with daughter Now Angel, 11, will move to secondary school and Mel gushed over her girl’s achievement on social media.
Mel wrote: “Awww congratulations my baby girl Angel. Happy graduation my love. How you have grown up. You are loved soo soo much.
“Glad me and your family were there today supporting, cheering you on!!! World better watch out – she’s a genius!!!!”
Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner
Royal venue goes ape
It was a far from regal affair at the Royal Albert Hall as fans of the Arctic Monkeys managed to create a temporary mosh pit at the iconic venue.
While the level of raucousness normally experienced at the Grade I listed building is limited to a bit of vigorous flag waving on The Last Night Of The Proms, the Sheffield rockers certainly know how to give their fans what they want.
As soon as they started playing some of their older tracks the audience went wild and by the time they played their hugely popular debut song I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor tops were off and being swung in the air.
The Crown actor Matt Smith and Noel Gallagher’s daughter Anaïs were also in attendance along with Day & Night, although none of us were left bruised and covered in beer as we all avoided the mosh pit madness.
Tony Hadley arrives for the TV Choice Awards at The Dorchester
Tony Hadley is still refusing to reveal the reason behind his SPANDAU BALLET exit.
And while the 58-year-old now goes so far as to say there is a specific reason, he won’t lift the lid on what it is.
“I could make a cheap shot and tell you exactly why I left. I don’t want to do that. I’m not into cheap shots,” says the former Spandau frontman whose new album Talking To The Moon came out yesterday.
“It’s something that happened. It was specific and I may never say. “You have to have a little bit of dignity,” adds the former (ahem) I’m A Celebrity… contestant.
“They are getting on with their lives and I’m getting on with mine.”
