Flight attendants know the tricks of the trade to ensure the best possible experience when 30,000 feet in the air.

One member of the cabin crew has revealed that they always take their own food onboard.

Named Shreyas P, she explained on Quora why passengers should follow in their footsteps when it comes to eating the inflight meals.

She wrote: “The food on your tray is prepared not in the galley but in the aircraft catering which is often done 12 hours before and even days before the aircraft departure.

“Now, how many such industries do you know where the hot or cold meal was made days before you consume it?”

Some of the food served is worse than others as she goes into detail what happens in the making process.

“The scrambled egg or the omelette that you just had was not only egg but can be a mix of egg and other substitute,” she explained. 

The fruit, despite many thinking this is the healthiest option, is questionable too.

This is due to it still looking fresh despite being “cut hours before the departure”.

Of course, passenger’s taste buds are altered when on a plane due to the air pressure changes, meaning food can have less taste.

Therefore airlines “pumped up the spices, salts and fats” to allow more flavour, according to the flight attendant.

She finished revealing that by having food from the ground, it shows they know the secrets of the trade: “A passenger bringing his own food shows a lot of awareness.”

For passengers wanting the freshest food on the plane, there are two things they can eat compared to everything else.

The bread rolls are some of the freshest as they have to be made on the day, so asking for a few of them instead of the meal can be the best option.

If stew is on the menu, passengers should choose this plane meal to retain flavour.

This is because it doesn’t really dry out and can be reheated to without losing taste.

Director of culinary excellence at LSG Sky Chefs Asia Pacific, Fritz Gross, told CNN: “We can simmer it and reheat it over and over and it will still be a stew.”
