Facebook DOWN: Social networking site not working as users left without access

Facebook is down right now with hundreds of users reporting issues with the hugely popular social media service.

Problems appear to have begun at around 4:45pm with many unable to gain access to their news feeds or log in.

Independent outage monitor Down Detector has received a surge in reports of Facebook down with the majority of the issues being reported in the UK, US and Europe.

It’s currently unclear what is causing the issues are or how many users are affected but Twitter is full of reports of problems.

One user posted a message saying: “Oh man Facebook is down? Or is it just me?”

Whilst another added: “@facebook I can’t log into account is Facebook server down?”

The news of this outage comes as Facebook recently updating its popular messaging service.

Facebook Messenger added AR filters to its video call system last year – this allowed people to dress their faces up or alter them entirely, making for a much more humorous call with friends and family.

But now the tech giant is adding games to the chat client to be played during video calls.

Dubbed “Don’t Smile” and “Asteroids Attack”, both are determined to make speaking with those closest to you more engaging then ever.

“Don’t Smile” is a game that harnesses the front-facing camera of each device using Facebook Messenger to identify when a user gets a grin on their face.
