A 200m cordon has been put in place around Spencer Road, in Newton Abbot, Devon, after police were called by an ambulance at 4.15pm today. The man was treated at the scene by paramedics but was pronounced dead a short while later. But while officers were at the house, a number of items were seized which require expert anaylsis from specialist officers and the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Department.
A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police are also being supported by the fire service at the scene.
“A 200m cordon has been put in place and a number of surrounding properties have been evacuated as a precaution while enquiries are ongoing at the property.
“Localised road closures are also in place.
“Enquiries are at a very early stage but there is not beleived to be any wider public risk at this time.”
