Strictly Come Dancing 2016 winner Ore Oduba, 33, took to his Instagram to speak about Dame Darcey Bussell’s exit in view of his 107,000 followers. The presenter, who won the Glitterball trophy with Joanne Clifton in 2016, shared two pictures of him with the 49-year-old judge alongside a lengthy statement. He wrote: “What more can you say about Dame Darcey… your expertise, experience and your grace has certainly done all the talking over seven incredible years @bbcstrictly. Thank you very everything you’ve given the show and personally for being such an amazing support.
“I’m so lucky to call you my friend. Looking forward to many more years of general silliness (aka working with you!!) but for now congratulations on another remarkable chapter.
“You’ll hate it but you are truly a National Treasure. Love u loads Double D @darceybussellofficial #darceybussell #strictly.”(sic)
Earlier today, Darcey took to Twitter to announce her departure from the BBC dance show.
The professional dancer, who joined the show in 2012, told her 172,000 followers she was leaving to concentrate on other work commitments and insisted she wasn’t leaving because of any “upset or disagreement”.
She said: “I am just stepping away to give more focus to my many other commitments in dance, after seven truly wonderful years that I can’t imagine having gone any better.”
Many of Darcey’s other Strictly co-stars flocked to social media to address her exit.
Head judge Shirley Ballas, 58, who joined the panel in 2017, shared a picture of her and Darcey from backstage on the show with her 122,000 Instagram followers.
She commented: “We’ve had the most laughs and fun times on the show.
“Today is certainly the end of an era. Thank you for holding my hand all the way and being such an incredible friend.
“You were my rock when I was new to the show and have always been so kind. I for one will dearly miss my partner in crime and our girly chats.
“It just wont be the same without you,” she added.
Judge Bruno Tonioli, 53, joked he had been completely oblivious to the news of Darcey’s exit.
In view of his 193,000 followers, he wrote: “I’ve been trying out having a complete switch off from social and mobile… I love it and highly recommend a detox now and again… What have I missed?
Soon after, he tweeted: “My darling @DarceyOfficial I will miss you so much your knowledge beauty talent charm and elegance makes you a true national treasure.
“I will treasures all the time we spent together on and off screen.”(sic)
It is currently unknown who will replace Darcey on the panel when the new series returns later this year.
