They said: “The formal identification has taken place of the deceased person recovered yesterday by Thames Valley Police. It was established that this is Daniel Williams, aged 19, of Sutton, London. Daniel was a student at the University of Reading who was reported as missing after last been seen in the early hours of Thursday morning.
“He was located in a lake at the Whiteknights Campus.”
Superintendent Stan Gilmour, Local Policing Area Commander for Reading, said: “Our thoughts continue to remain with the family and friends of Daniel Williams as they come to terms with what has happened.
“Please respect their privacy at this exceptionally difficult time for them.
Daniel disappeared while returning home from a university bar in the early hours of last Thursday.
“I would like to thank members of the public and the media for sharing our appeal for information in relation to Daniel while he was missing.”
The computer sciences student never arrived home to his off-campus accommodation in Blenheim Road, Reading, Berkshire.
He disappeared in temperatures of minus 5.7 degrees Centigrade recorded at the same university campus, sparking fears over his safety in the freezing weather.
