Cracking Easter ideas: Affordable Easter accessories for the home | Property | Life & Style

Well some might think so but the truth is that painting eggs is an Easter tradition going back centuries and hanging them from a few artfully arranged twigs looks lovely.

Easter crackers? Aren’t they just a bit of fun in the same way that painted hens’ eggs became pastry and sugar eggs in 19th-century Germany and eventually chocolate eggs.

The Easter Bunny, by the way, is another continental tradition that started out as a reference to the spring hare’s prolific life cycle and, once exported to America by German migrants, eventually became a more family-friendly character.

Easter eggs, of course, signify new life.

Like Christmas, Easter remains vitally important in the Christian calendar and, just like Christmas, pulling crackers before lunch isn’t going to change that.

The important thing is that modern Easter-themed home accessories can add to the enjoyment of friends and families getting together to celebrate, says Sainsbury’s Home buyer Rebecca Henchey.

“Easter is a great opportunity for families to come together.

“You don’t need to break the bank in order to add a few seasonal touches to the home and it is a quick and easy way to make the occasion extra special.”

So whether you’re buying Easter Bunny hunt treats, faux flowers for table decorations or splashing out on cutlery and crockery for the big family lunch, we wish you a Happy Easter… only 268 sleeps until Christmas!
