Your broadband set for huge speed boost as UK greenlights key change

If you’ve been struggling with infuriatingly-slow broadband speeds while working, study and family-quizzing from home over the last few months, the latest announcement from Ofcom should put a spring in your step. The UK telecoms regulator has confirmed plans to open-up 500MHz of spectrum in the 6GHz band for use in household Wi-Fi connections. So, what does all that mean? Well, you might already be aware that your current Wi-Fi router can beam-out broadband at 2.4GHz and 5Ghz. If your device supports it (and some older smartphones and other household gadgets…

Samsung wants to improve Windows 10 speed and battery life

Samsung is purportedly building its own processors to fuel a new range of Windows 10 devices. These custom-designed chipsets will use the same Exynos branding as the chipsets used in some Galaxy S smartphones, like the Galaxy S20 series sold in the UK. Samsung uses a mixture of its own processors and Qualcomm Snapdragon to power its flagship smartphones depending on the country. Both of these chipsets are based on ARM, which is the same architecture that Apple uses for its own custom-designed silicon. For years, Apple has used its…

iPhone 12: there’s bad news about the battery life and release date

Provided Apple sticks with its usual release schedule, there’s not long left to wait until its next iPhone announcement in September. And ahead of the launch, two new rumours have surface and unfortunately neither offers good news for fans. The first worrying update comes via a new report from Macotakara. This states that a number of iPhone 12 models could be delayed until November. That’s two months later than iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro hit shelves last year. Macotakara is pretty reliable when it comes to reports on as-yet-unannounced Apple…

The first attempt, also known as Google Pixel Buds, were released back in 2018 and widely seen as a bit of flop. In our review, we called the original Buds “a little disappointing” with “mediocre sound quality and an annoying fit”. Fortunately, these aren’t issues with the all-new Pixel Buds, which are a massive improvement. First, the design of…

Free Android download lets YOU know when other Play Store apps are spying on you

Access Dots uses a simple notification system to let you know when an Android app could be listening in. A green dot shows on your screen when the camera has been accessed by an app, while an orange dot shows when the microphone has been engaged. It brings to Android the same security feature that Apple has already announced will be included in iOS 14. This functionality will be added to iPhones on the iOS 14 release date, which is expected to be in September. Thanks to Access Dots Android…

Your Windows 10 PC isn’t getting this massive upgrade anytime soon

When Microsoft launched its May 2020 Update earlier this year, the Redmond-based firm slimmed down the number of new features because it was so busy focusing on its new version of Windows – known as Windows 10X. However, the latter might now be delayed from its scheduled release date at the end of this year into “early 2021,” according to a new report from the ever-reliable Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet. Windows 10X, which was announced last year alongside a slate of new Surface devices, was revealed as a redesigned…
