Burnley 1 Cardiff 0
Burnley have picked up two important wins in their last two games, against Wolves and at Bournemouth, which has given Sean Dyche’s men a bit of breathing space. Cardiff are battling but having no luck and still look favourites for the vacant third relegation spot. That little bit of confidence Burnley have should make the difference.
Brighton 0 Bournemouth 0
Two sides with poor recent form and both looking nervously over their shoulders – especially Brighton. Chris Hughton’s men badly need a win and will have to put last week’s FA Cup semi-final disappointment behind them quickly. The Cherries have more points in the bag, but one win in their last nine league games is a worry.
Fulham 0 Everton 2
Relegation was confirmed for poor old Fulham a week ago and now it is just a matter of playing for pride and for Scott Parker, trying to make sure he gets the job permanently in the summer. He has though lost his first five as caretaker manager and the Cottagers nine in a row going into this one. Ominously, Everton have found form with wins over Chelsea West Ham and Arsenal – so more pain beckons for the Cottagers.
Southampton 1 Wolves 0
Saints have improved immensely under Ralph Hasenhuttl, and were harshly done by in the home loss to Liverpool, two brilliant late goals undoing them. Before that though there had been three wins out of four. Wolves have been inconsistent lately, and threw away a two goal lead in the FA Cup semi-final against Watford. There may be a hangover from that sickener.
Sheff United 3 Millwall 1
The Blades missed a chance to overtake rivals Leeds into the automatic promotion places by only drawing at Birmingham on Wednesday, and it is nip and tuck for second place, with Marcelo Bielsa’s men a point ahead. But it is only one loss in 13 for Chris Wilder’s men, and Millwall, only two points above the drop zone after their draw with QPR, face a tough one here. The Lions have won two out of their last four, but are poor on their travels.
