Panic took over in Brighton on Monday afternoon when one of the rides on its iconic pier partially came loose. Pictures from the pier show paramedics, firefighters and police officers attending the scene. They were called shortly after 3pm, the East Sussex Fire and Rescue said.
Among the injured, there is a teenage boy who had to be taken off the pier on a stretcheer, according to a witness.
The passerby, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “A boy who looked in his mid-teens was being taken off the pier on a stretcher.
“He was wincing and the ambulance crews with him gave him a pimp to take breaths from.”
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed one of the injured is a young male.
He said: “We have a vehicle at Brighton Palace Pier after an incident with a ride.
“There is one male, teenage patient with a leg injury.”
The spokesman added their Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) was also in attendance.
The ride which broke down, called Air Race, replicates “the experiences and sensations of an acrobatic aeroplane flight, banks, loops, dives and weightlessness that will test even the most experienced of thrillseekers”, according to the Brighton Palace Pier’s website.
