Fibre supplements could help to reduce your chances of developing a number of medical conditions, including coronary heart disease.

While fibre is known to help the digestive system, it could also play a role in reduce your risk of heart disease, according to the British Heart Foundation.
The highest intakes of fibre had the best effect on heart disease risk, it said.
“We’ve known for a long time that fibre helps keep our digestive system healthy. However, in the past 25 years research in this field has moved on and we’ve discovered other benefits.
“Higher intakes of dietary fibre, especially from cereal fibre and wholegrains, are associated with a lower risk of heart and circulatory disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers.”
Medical website WedbMD added: “A number of studies have found that a high intake of total fibre, from foods and supplements, lowers the risk of heart disease.
“High-fibre diets have also been associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes.”
If you aren’t a fan of taking supplements, you could always increase the amount of fibre in your diet by eating certain foods.
The best fibre sources in your diet include oats, nuts, seeds, broccoli, pasta, wholewheat bread, and even potato skins.
Everyone should aim to eat around 30g of fibre in a single day, as part of a healthy, balanced diet, said the NHS.
Meanwhile, heart disease could be caused by eating an unhealthy diet, or by not doing enough exercise.
Heart disease is caused by the heart’s blood supply becoming blocked – usually by a build-up of fatty substances in the arteries.
You’re more likely to develop heart disease if you’re a smoker, have high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes.
Common heart disease symptoms include chest pain, heart failure, and heart attacks.
You could lower your risk of the condition by eating a heathy, balanced diet, and by doing regular exercise.
Everyone should aim to do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity every week.
