Nearly a year on from Wenger announcing he would be leaving Arsenal, Unai Emery has got the club into a strong position to finish in the top four and into the quarter-finals of the Europa League final.
Last summer, Emery spent around £70million on five signings and in January, funds were short for the Spaniard to spend so he was forced to settle for a solitary loan deal.
In the upcoming transfer window, Emery is hopeful of having significant money from the Arsenal board to spend but may also need to sell some players.
But Gunners legend Wright says he is pleased with what he is hearing from Emery.
And speaking while on his way to Goodison Park for Arsenal’s clash with Everton, Wright said Emery is a refreshing change from Wenger.
“It is very refreshing to see and hear some of the things he’s saying,” Wright said in a video posted on his official YouTube channel.
“He doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Under previous management we wouldn’t hear the truth.
“We would hear ‘yes, we’re gonna go for this play. we’re trying to go for this great player’.
“From Unai we heard last January that we can only get in loans.
“But what we are seeing from him now is somebody telling us he wants top level players.
“He wants the kind of players that are gonna take this club to the next level.
“We’ve got great youth players and academy players like Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe and Emery wants to promote them and bring them in.
“It is great to see a manager who is not sugarcoating.
“He’s telling us exactly what is going on and I think he should be trusted in respect of what he’s saying and what he wants to do.”
On Friday, Emery said he wanted Arsenal to invest on the squad in the summer.
“I think we can improve first, by spending money to achieve players,” he said.
“In the past the club have done great work in watching players, finding and signing young players and developing our players in the academy.
“I have big respect for our work, for our players in the academy. I want to develop the players here – giving them progress to achieve something at a big club like we are.”
