Finding yourself umm’ing and err’ing between two smartphones models, Bluetooth speakers, or headphones? Then you’re in the right place!
Scroll down to find a comprehensive list of the latest product reviews written by the Express.co.uk consumer tech team. We’re always bashing on rugged gadgets, barking orders at smart speakers, replacing perfectly good lightbulbs with Wi-Fi enabled equivalents, re-wiring our routers, and plugging and unplugging HDMI dongles to check which are best suited to weekend-long binges of The Haunting Of Hill House – all so you don’t have to!
Here at Express.co.uk, we test everything from smart home gadgetry, TVs, smartphones, headphones, fitness trackers, laptops, and much, much more. Here’s a comprehensive list of some of the tech toys that have arrived in Express.co.uk towers and left with a shiny new star rating. We test everything we review thoroughly, usually living with the device in our own homes for a few weeks before putting pen to paper.
Most recently… We’ve been out and about (while maintaining at least one-metre) with the Sony Xperia 1 II flagship smartphone. This is the follow-up to the Xperia 1 and doubles-down on everything that made that smartphone so appealing – the blockbuster-ready 21:9 aspect ratio of the display, the cinematic shooting modes and editing features of the camera, and the sleek bezel-less design. This is a powerful handset, powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, which means you’ll be able to play PS4 titles for hours on end via Remote Play without the chipset even breaking a sweat. But while there’s a lot to love, the one thing we’re not keen on is the price.
Speaking of remarkable price tags, we’ve had a chance to take a look at the Microsoft Surface Earbuds. These Bluetooth ‘buds are Microsoft’s answer to the immensely-successful Apple AirPods, Google Pixel Buds, and much, much more. Unfortunately, it’s easy to tell these are a first-generation product as they don’t quite match the refinement found on competitors’ buds. And at £199, Microsoft is charging quite a lot more than its rival’s second- or third-generation earbuds, which boast handy features – like the ability to pause automatically as soon as you take one of the ‘buds out of your ear to listen out for a tannoy announcement on the train, or to talk to a friend.
And it’s not just the Microsoft Surface Earbuds that we’ve been using to listen to our favourite album this week. The JBL CLUB ONE, trust us – we’re not keen on the capital letters either but it’s something the marketing team at JBL insist on, are a solid pair of over-ear headphones with active noise-cancellation and a jaw-dropping 45-hour battery life.
